Study on Cation-Anion Composition of Urine in Normal Preschool Children
¹Ú¼º¿ø/Park, Sung Won
Abstract
The 24 hour urinary excretion of creatinine, sodium, potassium, calcium, titrable acidity, ammonia, chloride and phosphate in 28 normal preschool children from 4 to 6 years of age was measured with aims to investigate the cation-anion composition in urine.
The results obtained are as follows;
1. The average amount of sodium chloride excretion was 4.7 gm/d, suggestive of excessive intake of salt it preschool children.
2. The average amount of potassium excretion was 7.815 5 mEq/ d, which is about equivalent to dailv amount of obligatory loss in this age.
3. The average excretion of calcium was 62.9-46.6 mg/d.
4. Excretion of titrable acidity and ammonia_ was 9.412.0 mEq/d and 265.4-182.1 mg/d respectively.
5. Phosphate excretion was 254.0:-89.2 mg/d.
6. The major component of cation in urine was sodium which occupies about 71% of all cations in urine, and that of anion in urine was chloride, being 60.5% of all anions in urine. The proportion of titrable acidity and ammonia was found to be 20.5% of all cations in urine.
